DESTINATION – PICO ISLAND

Pico Island – Vineyard, volcano and horizon

Pico Island is Atlantic silence in its purest form.
It is the place where the sea meets basalt, where vineyards grow among stones and time is measured by light and tides.
Here is where Pico Vineyards – Wine Boutique Hotel is born, inspired by the land, the wine and the island’s essence.

What to visit on Pico Island

Pico Island offers much more than landscapes. Every place has a story, a silence, a memory kept in the rock. These are some unmissable spots to discover with time — and intention.

Pico Mountain

Portugal’s highest point (2,351 m) is also a transformative experience. The climb, with a certified guide, reveals unique landscapes and an intimate connection to nature’s rhythm.

Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture (UNESCO)

A World Heritage Site since 2004, this landscape of black stone enclosures testifies to the island’s agricultural resilience. Criação Velha and Santa Luzia are two of the most emblematic areas.

Gruta das Torre

Portugal’s largest lava tube, over 5 km long. A journey into the earth’s interior, where the volcano left marks that still breathe today.

Lajes do Pico

A fishing village with a whaling tradition, now converted into a cetacean observation center and a starting point for sea tours. The Whalers Museum is a must-visit.

Natural pools and bathing areas

Between lava rocks and open sea, Pico offers unique spots for swimming in nature: São Roque, Poça das Mujas (Calheta de Nesquim) or Furna de Santo António, among others.

Cachorro and Lajido

The island’s north coast, marked by volcanic rock formations, vineyards and small traditional wineries. Ideal for late afternoon walks with views of São Jorge.
